Pricing for domestically produced rebar in the US is unchanged for the fifth week in a row, as uncertainty rules the day ahead of Wednesday's details on US reciprocal trade tariffs.

Pricing for domestically produced rebar in the US is unchanged for the fifth week in a row, as uncertainty rules the day ahead of Wednesday's details on US reciprocal trade tariffs.

Market participants tell Kallanish that the looming tariffs are keeping deal flow muted, as many are confused and brace for short-term volatility.

The spot price range for US domestic #4 rebar in 20-foot sticks remains at $770-790/short ton. This is up 9.1% year-to-date, but down 6.6% from $835/st in the equivalent week last year.

Overall, US rebar demand is lacklustre, according to sources. Coupled with a great deal of uncertainty, that keeps the rebar trade in wait-and-see mode.

"US domestic rebar prices remain the same as last week," states a Texas rebar distributor. “No change.”

Downstream consumption trails recent years.

“Business is definitely off from this time last year, and from previous years as well,” states a mid-Atlantic distributor.

In the southern US, fabricators note that business is spotty.

“We have a fabrication uptick but question if it will continue,” states a southeastern fabricator. “For now, it is a whole bunch of wait and see.”
